Discover the Incredible Powers for Success!
Dear Parents,
Welcome to one of the most incredible years your child will have in his/her school career! Third grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of leaning. This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which acquit ion of new skills is accelerated. Our main goal this year is Reading to comprehend. In my classroom, your child will participate in whole group, small group, and individual instruction in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and technology. I hope to make your child's third grade year a fun and exciting one and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last a lifetime. So much happens in third grade! Because of this, parents as well as children may have some apprehension about what or when it will actually happen. It is extremely important to keep in mind that we all build on small successes. Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority. Here are some ways you can help:
- Celebrate your child's successes, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of his/her work.
- Look through your child's agenda/ folder each day. There will be important notes, spelling list, graded work, test, and homework assignments.
- Read a book with your child daily for 30 minutes. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom. Remember to record all reading on your child's reading log.
Please take some time to read and discuss the parent information with your child. You will find our classroom rules and behavior policy, homework policy and other helpful information. When parents understand the expectations of the school and their child's teacher they are able to support and encourage academic success in the education of their child. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call me at (754) 322-9100. We can conference over the phone or set up a meeting after school.
